What Is a Paper Bag Rope Threading Machine?
A paper bag rope threading machine is finishing equipment that takes already printed and formed paper bags, punches the handle holes, feeds rope through them and knots the ends inside the bag. It replaces the manual threading bench, where two to four workers thread and knot handles by hand. A fully automatic model completes the cycle at 40 to 55 bags per minute and places every hole within ±0.1 mm of the target position.
The distinction that matters when you specify one is when the handle goes on. Bags made on a sheet-fed or roll-fed forming line get their handles applied inline, during forming. Threaded bags are different: the bag leaves the press finished, then goes through a separate threading pass. That is the only way to fit cotton rope, silk ribbon or knotted three-strand rope, because those materials cannot be glued down inline.

Threading or Inline Handles? Two Different Bag Constructions
Buyers often ask which method is better. It is the wrong question, because the two produce physically different bags and most converters eventually run both. What decides it is the handle material your customer specified.

All five run paper from 128 to 300 g/m² and take three-strand, cotton and silk ribbon rope. Punch diameter is selectable from 4 to 6 mm by tooling. Footprint is 2.8 × 1.35 m for the standard frame and 3.4 × 1.35 m for the KFD-500C+H, which carries the extra hook and hangtag stations.
Reading the table: pick the row by the smallest bag you need to run and by what the brand wants on the bag besides the rope. Hole spacing is the constraint people miss when specifying a paper bag rope threading machine. It has to be smaller than the bag width minus the gusset fold depth, so a narrow bag with a wide handle span will not physically work regardless of the model.

Two vibratory bowls feed metal eyelets into the punched holes before the rope goes through, so a bag that would otherwise need an eyelet press and a threading bench comes off one machine finished. Eyelet sizes run 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5 and 6 mm, and other diameters can be tooled. This is the model to look at if your customers specify reinforced handle holes, which is standard on heavier gift and wine bags.
KFD-500C+H — Hook, Hangtag and Rope in One Cycle

Retail packaging for perfume, jewelry and confectionery usually arrives with a printed hangtag on the handle and, for hanging display, a paper or plastic hook attached to the bag. Doing that by hand is slow and inconsistent. The KFD-500C+H attaches the hook, feeds the hangtag and threads the rope inside a single 3.4 m frame. Hangtags outside the standard size window can be tooled, including die-cut shapes.
Eyelet Machines for Lower Volumes
Not every workshop needs eyelet setting integrated into the threading line. If you are punching and setting grommets in batches, or working on formats a paper bag rope threading machine will not take, two standalone machines cover it:
KFA-700 — Four-Head Eyelet Machine
Four heads set eyelets in one press cycle, at 25–40 eyelets per minute on 220 V single phase. Hole spacing 70–450 mm, depth into the bag 0–40 mm, 700 × 800 × 1,200 mm, 120 kg. Foot-pedal operated, sized for paper bag handle holes and short runs where a full threading line is not justified.
KFB-850 — Corrugated Flat Eyelet Machine
Same 25–40 per minute rate, but the working window opens right up: hole spacing 110–850 mm and depth 0–305 mm, on a 290 kg frame. This is the one for corrugated gift boxes, wide handle spans and flat blanks the four-head cannot reach across.

What buyers ask before replacing a manual threading bench.
When do I need a paper bag rope threading machine instead of an inline handle station?
Whenever the handle material cannot be glued down during forming. Cotton rope, silk ribbon and knotted three-strand rope all have to be threaded through punched holes after the bag is finished, which an inline handle station cannot do. This is the third of three routes a handle takes onto a bag, and the only one that runs off the forming line. You also need one if you buy printed bags from outside and finish them yourself, or if the brand specified eyelets, a hangtag or a hanging hook on the handle.
How many bags per hour can it actually thread?
Rated speed is 40–55 pieces per minute depending on model, which is about 2,400 bags per hour in steady production. The base KFD-500A is the fastest at 40–55 pcs/min. Models carrying extra stations run slower: 35–50 pcs/min with hangtag insertion and 35–45 pcs/min with hook plus hangtag. Real output depends on rope type and bag stiffness, so send a sample if the number has to be exact.
What rope types and bag sizes does it handle?
Three-strand paper rope, cotton rope and silk ribbon rope, at 300–480 mm finished rope length including tension. Bag formats run 180–450 mm wide and 180–450 mm high on the standard frame, and down to 110 mm wide by 150 mm high on the KFD-500A-2. Paper weight is 128–300 g/m². Hole spacing has to be less than the bag width minus the gusset fold depth.
Can it add eyelets, hangtags and hooks as well as rope?
Yes, and in the same cycle rather than a second pass. The KFD-500B sets metal eyelets before threading, in 4 to 6 mm sizes. The KFD-500C inserts a printed hangtag, 30–130 mm wide by 60–130 mm long, and the KFD-500C+H adds a paper or plastic hanging hook on top of that. Non-standard hangtag shapes can be tooled from your sample.
What power and floor space does it need?
Installed power is 12 kW across the threading range. The standard frame is 2,800 × 1,350 × 2,200 mm and weighs about 2,000 kg, rising to 2,200 kg on the KFD-500B with its eyelet feeders. The KFD-500C+H is longer at 3,400 mm to carry the hook and hangtag stations. Allow operator access on the infeed side and space for the discharge conveyor.
